How payments work

The customer pays. You get paid. We stay out of the way.

Card payments run through Stripe and land in your own bank account. Here's exactly how money moves, what it costs, and what happens with repeat orders.

How money moves on a one-time order

  1. 1

    The customer orders and pays

They pick a size, wood type and delivery date on your order page, then pay by card on Stripe's secure checkout.
  2. 2

Stripe sends the payment to your account

The payment goes to your connected Stripe account. The platform fee is taken out at the same time — no invoices, no settling up later.
  3. 3

    The order shows as paid

Your dashboard updates to Paid and you get an email with the order details.
  4. 4

    You deliver

Mark the stop delivered from your route list.
  5. 5

Stripe pays out to your bank

Payouts arrive on Stripe's rolling schedule, typically about 2 business days after the payment clears.

Recurring deliveries

For repeat customers (every two weeks, monthly or every two months), the card is saved on the first order but charged only when each delivery is marked delivered. If a customer skips or cancels, nothing is charged.

If a charge fails, that delivery is flagged in your dashboard so you can collect at the door or follow up.

What a sale looks like

Example: Half cord — 64 cubic feet, stacked, at your price of $195

  • Customer pays: $195 plus any stacking fee and sales tax
  • Stripe card fee: Stripe's standard processing rate
  • Platform fee: the percentage shown in your dashboard
  • You receive: the rest, paid to your bank

You always set the price. We never mark it up or change it.

Paying at delivery instead

Not ready for card payments? Skip connecting payouts. Orders still come in, customers see that they'll pay you at delivery, and no platform fee is charged on those orders. You can connect payouts any time from the Payments tab.

Security and your data

Card numbers and bank details go straight to Stripe and never touch wood for fire. You can see payouts, refunds and tax forms in your own Stripe payout dashboard, linked from the Payments tab.

Payment questions

Who holds the money?

Stripe does, not wood for fire. Card payments go to your own connected Stripe account, and Stripe pays out to your bank. We never hold your funds.

What fees are taken out?

Two things: Stripe's standard card processing fee, and the wood for fire platform fee. The current platform fee is shown in your dashboard before you connect payouts. There are no monthly fees, listing fees or paid placement.

When do I get paid?

Stripe sends payouts to your bank on a rolling schedule, typically about 2 business days after a payment clears. Your first payout can take longer while Stripe verifies your account.

When is a recurring customer charged?

Each time you mark one of their deliveries delivered. They save their card on the first order, and nothing is charged ahead of time.

What if a card is declined?

The delivery is flagged as a failed charge in your dashboard and the customer is notified, so you can collect another way.

How do refunds work?

You issue refunds from your Stripe payout dashboard. The order updates automatically in wood for fire.

What if I haven't connected payouts?

You still get orders. Customers are told they'll pay you at delivery, by cash, check or however you normally take payment.

What do I need to connect payouts?

Your legal business name (or your own name if you're a sole owner), tax ID or last four digits of your SSN, a business address, and the bank account you want paid into. Stripe collects this directly; we never see your bank details.
